Spice Czar Privacy
Your pantry and saved blends stay on your device.
Pantry and saved blends
Pantry items, shopping-list items, imported formulas and saved blends are stored in your browser on your device, or within the installed iPhone app. No account or automatic cloud synchronization is used. Removing the app or clearing its storage may remove this information. Use Backup in More to keep a copy.
Live camera scanning
The live barcode scanner opens the camera only when you tap Scan barcode. Camera frames are decoded on your device; Spice Czar does not save, record or upload them. The camera closes when you finish or cancel scanning.
Package photos and label scanning
Photos are processed on your device for image quality, printed text and barcode decoding. Spice Czar does not retain those photos or use them for model training. Clearing the photo or leaving the scan screen releases the temporary image. The iPhone app uses Apple's built-in text recognition for English labels. The web version loads its label reader from the same host.
Barcode lookups
A barcode lookup sends the numeric code to Open Food Facts for public product information. The photo and pantry are not sent. Like other web requests, this exposes connection information such as your IP address to that service. Open Food Facts retains technical logs under its privacy policy. You can use on-device label reading or type a spice name without requesting a barcode lookup. Product records are provided by Open Food Facts under the Open Database License. Records may be incomplete; confirm the name and form on the package.
Web hosting and outside links
The browser version loads from Spice Czar’s hosting provider. The installed iPhone app includes its core screens, formulas and scan reader locally. “Shop Spice Czar” opens thespiceczar.com with the ingredient name and referral tags in the search query. Outside sites apply their own privacy policies.
Backups and exports
Backups contain your pantry, shopping list, saved blends and imported formulas. You choose where to save or share them using your device. Spice Czar does not upload a backup automatically.
Advertising in the iPhone app
Ad-supported iPhone builds use Google AdMob to display banner ads. The website does not load AdMob. Builds with Ad preferences let you choose personalized or non-personalized ads. Personalization is off until you choose it, Apple authorizes tracking, and your regional privacy choices permit it. If you allow personalization, Google may use your advertising identifier and activity across other companies’ apps and websites to select relevant ads. Earlier ad-supported builds request non-personalized ads. Your pantry, recipes, camera images and package photos are not sent to AdMob.
Google’s advertising SDK may collect your IP address (which can indicate a general location), device and app information, advertising interactions and diagnostics to deliver ads, measure their performance and prevent fraud. Non-personalized advertising still involves data processing. See how Google uses information from apps.
Where required, Google’s consent form appears before ads are requested. Use Ad preferences at the bottom of the app or this policy to turn personalization off at any time. Where required, Ad privacy choices reopens Google’s regional consent form. You can also revoke Apple tracking permission in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. We recheck permission when the app returns from the background. Refusing personalization does not restrict app features. If consent cannot be obtained or an ad cannot load, you can continue using the app without ads. Builds before the AdMob update do not contain this advertising SDK.
Payments and accounts
The app has no payments, subscriptions or user accounts.
Food and allergen limits
A scan or photograph does not prove identity, purity, freshness, allergens or cross-contact status. Verify the physical package and supplier declaration before use.
